This cottage is a good example of the Picturesque Italianate house popularized by landscape architect Andrew Jackson Downing in the 1840s and 1850s. Here the front bay window is a strong Italianate feature and the recent addition of the folk spindlework porch complements the "picturesque" or romantic feeling of the house.
