Dr. Rice Residence
511 9th Street; Built 1898

This fine two-and-one-half story stone mansion displays the complex roof massing and house plan typical of Queen Anne residences. Graceful flourishes in the roof gables are Queen Anne touches, but the porch columns suggest a classical influence which was sweeping American after the Chicago World's Fair of 1893. In the early days this house boasted a tennis court on the south lawn.
