Father Stanley said this church "looked more like a New England Meeting House than one would expect to find in N.M.,"* The cornerstone of this Catholic Church was laid in 1886. This Gothic Revival style church was built of local white sandstone on land donated by Don Francisco Manzanares. Early pastors were Reverend Blase Antonio Schiffini, Reverend Manuel Rivera, who studied for the priesthood under Bishop Lamy, and Reverend T.P. O'Keefe, who directed the construction of a rectory in the rear of the church. This building was removed for a gas station, after the new church on 6th Street was erected.
