J.E. Hurley House 919 6th Street;Built 1883
The Hurley House was apparently built for AT&SF railroad superintendent George L. Sands. The house is distinguished by its Eastlake porch detailing, rare in New Mexico, which was added a few years after the structure was complete. (The Eastlake style is named for Chares Eastlake, a British furniture designer). An accurate example of Victorian exterior paint scheme, typified by formal, somber colors, has been used here.
